Dive
& Snorkel in Cozumel
|
Cozumel
is renowned as one of the greatest diving destinations in the world.
The reefs and shallow coral formations are the main attractions.
Palancar Reef is the 2nd largest in the world and a national park.
The coral wall drop offs are spectacular. Cozumel is
easily reached from Cancun by boat.
There are plenty of opportunities for snorkelers
to enjoy this underwater world. Both Colombia and Palancar reefs
have plateaus in less than 30 feet of water. At Chankanaab Lagoon,
divers and snorkelers can observe small coral and limestone formations
at 6 to 30 feet.
The major dive sites can be reached only by boat.
Dive boat trips range form one and two tank dives to half and full
day trips, and the longer trips usually include lunch. All dives
use a "live boat" drift diving technique exclusively.
Cozumel Drift Diving is the easy form of diving and is quite an
exhilarating experience. There are now 3 decompression stations
located on the island for your personal health concerns.
Snorkelers can sign up for special trips that
go to shallower parts of the reefs; the boat usually makes three
to four stops. |

Cavern diving-cenotes[sinkholes]
Yucatan Peninsula |
Along the Riviera Maya
are naturally occurring sinkholes, or cenotes, partially flooded and
alive with color and movement. These cenotes are actually underground
rivers and form the largest interconnected cave and cavern system
in the world. Today at least 1000 cenotes have been located among
the approximately 4000 that are believed to exist in the Yucatán.
The fresh waters are crystal clear, around 75°F all year round.
The cenotes are decorated with stalactites and stalagmites and various
animal life.
Professional Services of a Cavern
Team should be acquired to fully experience all the cenotes have to
offer. The "cavern" dive is an advanced dive in an overhead
environment and should be done only under the supervision of a qualified
professional guide. If you are a certified Open Water Diver
(or equivalent) you can go on a guided tour. The maximum depth you'll
reach during a dive is about 10-50 feet, depending on location. Dives
last roughly 35 to 40 minutes. There are basically no currents to
worry about.
Snorkerers will enjoy the invigorating swims in
the sinkholes and visible colors from the surfaces. |

Dolphin Encounter in Puerto Vallarta |
Dolphin Adventures seeks to promote a better awareness of dolphins
and their intricate underwater world. Their programs of study begin
with an audio presentation, offering a deeper understanding of the
dolphins' physiology and environment. A live hydrophone hook-up also
enables you to listen to the complex sounds of the dolphin's underwater
communication.
It is then time to join our fun-loving mammalian friends in their
marine surroundings. This is a thrilling experience, something to
be cherished for the rest of your life - a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Standing waist-deep in the water, guests are introduced to our family
of Pacific Bottlenosed Dolphins. They swim around guests offering
their sleek and graceful bodies to be petted gently, to shake our
hand and give a friendly kiss. |
